Burgin Independent Schools

 Hall of Fame

Operating Code

ARTICLE I - NAME/MISSION STATEMENT

The name of this committee is the Burgin Independent Schools Hall of Fame Nominating Committee.   Mission Statement: The intent of the Hall of Fame is to display to students and the public the accomplishments of individuals who have been instrumental in creating an exceptional tradition at Burgin Independent Schools.

ARTICLE II - ADOPTION OF CURRENT DISTINGUISHED  ALUMNI

The Burgin Independent Schools Hall of Fame will consider adopting the current members of the Distinguished Alumni Award recipients into the Hall of Fame.

ARTICLE III - NOMINATION COMMITTEE MEMBERS

The committee shall be made up of the athletic director, alumni, staff members, and other program contributors whom the athletic director has appointed. The committee will strive to have at least one member representing each of the decades: 1960, 1970, 1980, 1990, 2000, and 2010. The athletic director will appoint committee members for a term of 3 years.  After 3 years, a committee member can either be reelected or request removal.

ARTICLE IV - PROGRAM OF ACTIVITY

The committee will meet at least once a year, prior to October 15th. At the meeting(s), nominees will be selected for induction, and arrangements will be made for the induction ceremony as well as other business.  All actions taken by the committee, other than the inductee selection, shall be by a majority vote. Three members must be present to constitute a quorum.

ARTICLE V - CRITERIA

  1. The inductees shall be former Burgin School students, employees, or community members who have made a significant contribution to the school.
  2. Members inducted into the Hall of Fame must have made an outstanding contribution to the school during their time at Burgin Schools.
  3.  Members inducted into the Hall of Fame may no longer be employed by the school.
  4. Significant contribution is of prime importance, but moral character and good citizenship during their time at Burgin Schools and their post-graduate years will be taken into consideration.
  5. The member shall not be considered for entry into the Hall of Fame until 5 years after they graduate from High School.
  6. Suggestions may be solicited from the alumni of Burgin Independent Schools.
  7. A majority of the members of the nominating committee must approve all inductees.

ARTICLE VI – NOMINATION AND VOTING

  1. A completed nomination form must be submitted to the Hall of Fame Committee.  All nominations will remain on file.  Nominations may be provided by alumni, staff, or any community member on behalf of Burgin Schools.
  2. The total number of nominations provided will be ranked and given a point value.  For example, if 15 nominations are provided to each member, the Hall of Fame committee will rank all 15 nominations 1-15 (1 being the most worthy candidate).  The nominee ranked #1 would receive 15 points, followed by #2 with 14 points, and so on, down to #15 with 1 point.
  3. Total points will be tallied for all nominees.  An overall maximum number of points will also be tallied.  For example, if there are 7 Hall of Fame committee members and the highest point total for being ranked #1 is 12 points (12 nominations that year), the maximum number of points would be 84 points (7 members x 12 points = 84 points)

ARTICLE VII - AMENDMENTS

The operating code can be amended at any time by a two-thirds vote of the committee members
